Notes for Anthony Pepperman, Jr.: DAILY GAZETTE & BULLETIN
April 29, 1884 page 1 ANTHONY PEPPERMAN passed away Another
pioneer of Mifflin Township gone to his reward- brief sketch of
his life. On Thursday, April 24,1884; Mr. Anthony Pepperman,
Sr., of Mifflin township, this county, died at the advanced age
of 80 years, 6 months and 8 days. Mr. Pepperman had been sick
for almost a year, and while his family and friends could
scarcely expect him to recover, yet his death caused a cloud
of gloom to fall heavily upon them. He attained a ripe age and
had lived all his days In Lycoming County, and reared a
respectable family to comfort him in the decline of life. For
many years he served the Master faithfully by a close walk with
God in the Methodist Episcopal faith, and passed away calmly
with the full assurance of eternal life. Mrs. Fannie Harman, a
daughter residing in Iowa, came to see him a few hours prior to
his death, but he was so weak he could not talk to her although
he appeared to recognize her, whom he had not seen for several
years. In his death another daughter, Mrs. William C.
Marshall, of Anthony township, suffers a severe blow, as only
about two weeks previous she followed to the grave her aged
father-in-law, Mr. Andrew Marshall, he being 80 years, 6 months
and 13 days old. Thus those two good old people, who were boys
together, and traveled all their long and eventful lives
together as friends and Christians, and in death they were not
divided. Mr. Pepperman had several brothers, and lived to a
ripe age his brothers Jacob and John only preceding him to the
grave within the past three months. Isaac Pepperman, another
brother, is still living and resides near Salladasburg. While
we mourn our loss in the death of our aged friend, let us
remember that if we live as he lived, we will also die as he
did, 'in the fear of God.' Which is the richest reward we can
have in death. W.S.C.S.M. Mifflin Township, April 29th.
